This is a printed teddy bear pattern. Basil is a 34cm (13 1/2 inches) including the ears floppy bunny. He is made of mohair with glass eyes and movable joints. The ears are wired for pose-ability The Basil bunny sewing pattern is suitable for intermediate to advanced teddy bear makers.
This modern-style bunny is the perfect addition to your handmade toy collection. Small enough to easily sit on a shelf or in a display cabinet, he’s big on character. Display Basil with his teddy friends, or make him the centerpiece of your Easter display. Basil bunny sewing pattern is the perfect project to upcycle wool clothing or a fleece blanket, or you could even make him using felt.
Printed Pattern
This is the printed version of the pattern. A printed teddy bear pattern is a great choice because you will receive the pattern templates ready to cut out and printed instructions that you can refer to on your worktable as you sew. Once you have paid for your order, we will ship the pattern sheets and instructions to your delivery address.
What Fabric is Suitable to Make this Bear?
We made our Basil using short spiky mohair. You can also use slightly more furry mohair, long pile miniature bear fabric, or upholstery fabric. Vintage cotton fabric would suit the bunny, just be sure to use iron-on interfacing to stabilize the fabric. Although we think that most synthetic fur fabrics wouldn’t do the pattern justice, it would probably work with a short fur pile under 10mm.
Full Supplies List:
- Fabric – 1/16m mohair in main colour and 10 x 12cm mohair fabric for the face
- Eyes – 6mm or 7mm glass eyes
- Joints – 13mm and 17mm discs with split pins
- Nose Thread – black embroidery thread no 8
- Suede – a scrap for the inner ears
- 2 Chenille sticks to insert in the ears
Sewing Tools and General Supplies:
In addition to the items in the supplies list above, you will need fiber fill stuffing, sewing thread, and possibly some glass beads or lead shot to weight the bear.
Have the following tools on hand:
- Fabric marking pen to mark out the pattern pieces on the fabric
- Small sharp scissors for cutting out
- Hand sewing needles
- A long doll needle to insert the eyes
- A hemostat or stuffing tool
- Needle nose pliers for the joints
Hand Sewing or Sewing Machine?
We prefer to sew our small bears entirely by hand. You can save time by sewing the seams using a sewing machine. However, you will still need to do some hand-finishing.
