This modern-style artist sewing pattern cat is the perfect addition to your handmade toy collection. Yawn is large enough to be a cuddly companion to a baby or toddler, but also interesting enough to be a feature in your teddy bear collection.
Yawn was designed by Megan Wallace for Tin Soldiers.
What Fabric is Suitable to Make this Bear?
We made our Yawn using short piled synthetic fur. You can also use furry mohair.
Full Supplies List:
- Fabric – 1/4m plus an additional 1/16m fur for the main colour. 1/16m fur contrast for the cheeks, tail tip, and chest
- A small scrap of pink suede for inner ears, toe pads, and nose
- Eyes – 14mm
- Joints – a 45mm and 55mm joint set with split pins or screws
- Nose Thread – pink embroidery thread no 8
Sewing Tools and General Supplies:
In addition to the items in the supplies list, you will need fiber fill stuffing, sewing thread, and possibly some glass beads or lead shot to weight the bear.
Have the following tools on hand:
- Fabric marking pen to mark out the pattern pieces on the fabric
- Small sharp scissors for cutting out
- Hand sewing needles
- A long doll needle to insert the eyes
- A hemostat or stuffing tool
- Needle nose pliers for the joints
Hand Sewing or Sewing Machine?
We prefer to sew our bears entirely by hand. You can save time by sewing the long seams using a sewing machine. However, you will still need to do some hand-finishing.
